I enjoyed reading this book, nreed kept my attention and was a little edgier than normal. Over months, Julie does learn to trust and care for Grady but it’s a slow process.

I did not enjoy reading about her. But when the Eastern Land Company moves to steal Hawks Nest Ranch, claiming Grady is too Indian to rightfully control it, Grady decides to apply what he’s learned in mixing different strains of cattle.
He is patient with Julie. The sheriff and a few townspeople set up a situation where Julie is forced to either marry rancher Grady Hawks or be charged with murder and lose her babies. I loved the Native American elements shown against the struggles of the settlers. The characters behave true to their time, and in the case of Grady, he has to play to the race game in order not to become buried by the Texas Indian Relocation Act.
Both characters can be a bit slow to realize that they are in love, but they are smart and likable times who live and love well together.

Once again this book started off very slowly, it took about a quarter of the book just to establish what was going on, but I happily give this book 5stars because it goes on my re-read shelf now. Grady intends to breed back to the fair skin and Scottish features of his father and Julie meets every requirement. The trials of a couple destined to be together.
